Ethereum's state growth is forcing centralization as running nodes requires 2TB+ storage. Stateless consensus using Verkle Trees and KZG polynomial commitments can reduce block witness data from 10-20 MB to under 100 KB by replacing Merkle Patricia Tries. This enables lightweight verification without storing full state. The approach uses weak statelessness where block builders generate proofs to avoid race conditions. Combined with state expiry mechanisms, this architecture aims to make Ethereum verification accessible without relying on centralized providers.
