<h2>Vercel security breach</h2>
<p>An attacker compromised a Vercel employee’s Google Workspace account by first breaching a third-party AI platform the employee was using. From there they escalated into internal systems including Linear and GitHub. A threat actor claiming to be ShinyHunters posted on a hacking forum offering to sell stolen data — allegedly source code, API keys, NPM tokens, and database contents — for $2 million, though the actual ShinyHunters group has denied involvement.</p>
<p>Vercel says environment variables marked as sensitive are safe, but non-sensitive variables were enumerable. If you’re a Vercel customer, rotate all secrets now, audit which variables are marked non-sensitive, and watch the Security Bulletin. Vercel has brought in Google Mandiant and is working with law enforcement.</p>
<p>The entry point here wasn’t Vercel itself — it was a third-party AI tool one employee was using. That’s the part worth sitting with. Every SaaS tool your team connects to is a potential attack surface, especially anything with broad access to email or documents.</p>
