Valibot is a new modular data validation library for JavaScript, created by Fabian Hiller. It allows developers to compose small, reusable validation units together for flexible and powerful validation schemas. The library promotes collaboration and aims to push the entire data validation ecosystem forward. A recent update enabled prettier support and made major API reworks. Contributors are welcome to join and improve the open-source project.

Another day, another js library…

I don’t know why people feel the need to try and validate an email address using Javascript. Set the input type to ‘email’, and send a ‘validation’ email to the provided address.
The problem with this validation library like so many others is that it fails certain email addresses that the RFC considers valid.
As an example, the following email address is valid: test@example
However, Valibot, like others, considers it not valid because it doesn’t have the domain extension.
The following is also a valid email address as far as the RFC is concerned: &quot; &quot;<a href="https://app.daily.dev/example" data-mention-id="wwEO51fNuy1IHkXj8v5qf" data-mention-username="example">@example</a>.com
And lets also not forget this one, which I personally use a LOT, as it means things get auto-labelled in gmail (It isn’t unique to gmail though): <a href="mailto:test+label@example.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">test+label@example.com</a>
In that example, <a href="mailto:test@example.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">test@example.com</a> is the actual email address, and gmail will take the ‘label’ that comes after the ‘+’ and use that to label the email appropriately.
