The crackdown targets the Shunda compound in Myanmar, where enslaved workers were forced to conduct social engineering attacks against US citizens, impersonating bank representatives. Operation Level Up has intervened in nearly 9,000 crypto fraud cases, saving an estimated $562 million. Experts note that while enforcement is more disruptive for physical scam compounds than for purely online cybercrime, these operations can relocate — with signals already pointing to Sri Lanka as the next hub.
