Unvanquished 0.56 has been released, bringing renderer improvements to its Daemon engine including a linear blend regime for better lighting, improved FXX anti-aliasing, more efficient fog effects, and various OpenGL enhancements. A notable addition is OpenMP support for multi-threaded CPU-based rendering of skeletal models, which helps low-end or architecturally limited GPUs like the Chinese MTT S80 from Moore Threads. OpenMP is now enabled by default in Linux and Windows builds, with plans to extend its use to image decompression and particle systems in future releases.
