Modern observability systems accept flexible, semi-structured telemetry, but this flexibility leads to schema drift over time: inconsistent field names, type conflicts, and uncontrolled field growth. Without an explicit contract describing what telemetry should look like, dashboards, alerts, and tooling become fragile. OpenTelemetry Weaver (released 2025) enables contract-driven telemetry by letting teams define schemas explicitly and generate SDKs from them. For existing systems, a practical migration path is to infer schemas from live telemetry flowing through OpenTelemetry collectors, identifying consistent fields, type conflicts, and cross-service differences. This inferred schema can then be gradually formalized and enforced, bridging the gap between organically grown telemetry and a governed, predictable model without requiring disruptive re-instrumentation.
