Unity is transitioning from Mono to CoreCLR, with an alpha release planned for Unity 6.8 later this year. The migration eliminates domain reloads and brings .NET 10 and C# 14 support, faster iteration times, MSBuild support with customizable SDK-based builds, bidirectional IDE support, and a CoreCLR player for desktop platforms. An IL2CPP player with .NET and C# 14 support targeting all platforms is also planned. This marks the beginning of broader performance improvements for the Unity engine.
