As of April 7, 2025, Unity 6 is no longer accessible to game developers in China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Unity has clarified that this move is part of a long-term strategy and not related to tariffs. To continue supporting developers in these regions, Unity has introduced a localized version of their engine, called Tuanjie.
Unity China will now focus on providing localized support through Tuanjie, which aims to address specific needs in the region. These include small game solutions and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) car systems, ensuring that regional developers have the tools they need for their projects. Additionally, Unity China will continue to support Unity 2022 Long Term Support (LTS) and earlier versions, ensuring that ongoing projects remain unaffected by the change.
The shift to Tuanjie is meant to offer game engine services that are better suited to the Chinese market and to improve related features throughout 2025. In line with this, Unity China emphasizes its commitment to focusing on developer feedback and optimizing pricing strategies for small and medium-sized development teams.
This strategic decision reflects Unity’s goal of expanding and refining its services to meet the diverse needs of developers within China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
