The UK government is launching a six-week trial with 300 families to test different levels of social media restrictions for under-16s, including full bans, one-hour daily caps, and nighttime blocks. Researchers will assess impacts on sleep, schoolwork, and family life. A larger study of ~4,000 students aged 12-15 across ten Bradford schools, funded by the Wellcome Trust, will also begin later this year. The initiative follows political pressure to mirror Australia's social media ban for minors and comes alongside Apple announcing age verification for UK accounts.
