UKIE and entertainment charity OKRE have published a report calling for a unified research framework for the UK games industry, arguing the sector is 'fundamentally misunderstood' by government and investors. The framework uses a Theory of Change model to connect games' impact across healthcare, education, and culture. It identifies three anchor points — production, playing, and third-party use — and covers over 50 sub-sectors. The report, supported by UKRI and the BFI Innovation Challenge Fund, calls on industry, government, and academia to collaborate on filling research gaps, and has launched a survey for developers and publishers to share how they measure their work's impact.
