Ubuntu Studio is considering changing its default desktop layout for the upcoming 26.04 LTS release. Currently using KDE Plasma with a top panel (inherited from its previous Xfce setup), the distribution is polling its community to choose between a macOS-like layout with top panel and bottom dock, or a Windows-like layout with a single bottom panel. The change would only affect new installations, not upgrades.

Wouldn’t it just be better left as normal as it could be &amp; just let the end user tinker &amp; customize it themselves?

I don’t think Linux needs to be very modern, at least not in a specific region-specific linux.
However, it is a bit disappointing news that unique Linuxs are going modern.

A TON more theme options would be wonderful

I change to KDE Neon a few months ago and I don’t regret it at all. Ive tried a few distros before but all had issues with mu dual monitor setup. Decided to try randomly KDE without much expectations but tbf I slowly fell in love and this one of the reasons. The modularity you get in return is amazing, especially if you are a developer.
