Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Server will now automatically install HWE (Hardware Enablement) and OEM kernel packages by default, a feature previously limited to Ubuntu Desktop. This change, part of the Subiquity 26.04 server installer release, improves out-of-the-box hardware compatibility for server deployments. Admins can opt out if they prefer not to have a newer or different kernel auto-installed. The release also includes earlier user creation in the setup process, group support for automated installs, improved TPM-backed Full Disk Encryption, and various bug fixes.
