Ubuntu new folder icons are here – and you’re going to have opinions…

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS 'Resolute Raccoon' is receiving a visual overhaul in its daily builds. The most notable change is a redesigned set of folder icons in the Yaru icon theme: they are now squatter, more colorful, and shift fully to match the system accent color rather than just being tinted. Other icon updates include reworked LibreOffice icons closer to the official style, a dynamically recoloring Calculator icon, new accessibility symbolics, and improved Desktop/remote folder emblems. Beyond icons, the Yaru GNOME Shell theme now closely follows upstream Adwaita, dropping nearly 5,000 lines of custom code. This brings bolder text, squared-off Quick Settings controls, and an opaque Ubuntu Dock background for better contrast. The custom accent color palette, including the 'Warty' brown, remains unchanged until Ubuntu 26.10.
