Ubuntu 24.04 LTS users will soon receive a fix for missing desktop file thumbnails that have been broken for nearly a year. The issue was caused by AppArmor security restrictions blocking the Bubblewrap calls needed by the Desktop Icons NG extension to generate thumbnails. An update is currently in testing and will be available through Software Updater within a week, though users can manually install the fix now or switch to the upstream GNOME extension version.
