Ubuntu 26.04 LTS 'Resolute Raccoon' brings two years of cumulative changes since 24.04 LTS. Key highlights include: removal of the X11/Xorg GNOME session (Wayland-only), Dracut for faster boot, TPM-backed full-disk encryption, Rust-based sudo and coreutils, refreshed Yaru theme with new folder icons, five new default apps (Papers, Loupe, Ptyxis, Resources, Showtime), major Nautilus file manager improvements, grouped notifications, APT command-line improvements with new commands and better formatting, HDR/VRR/fractional scaling support, remote desktop hardware-accelerated encoding, a new Wellbeing panel for screen time tracking, battery charging limits, NVIDIA CUDA and AMD ROCm added to repos, and Linux kernel 7.0 with Mesa 26.0.x. Several tools were removed including Software & Updates, Startup Applications, and Google Drive Nautilus integration.
