Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (codenamed Resolute Raccoon) is in development and brings a range of notable changes. Key highlights include GNOME 50 with a full switch to Wayland (no more X11 option), a new default terminal called Tixis built with GTK4, Rust-based core utilities (sudo-rs, uutils) included by default, and a new image viewer (Loop) built with Rust and GPU acceleration. The installer gains improved dual-boot detection and better TPM 2.0 full disk encryption. Snap performance is improved, the Software & Updates app is removed in favor of the Ubuntu App Center, and Ubuntu Pro features move to a new Security Center. The release ships with Linux kernel 7.0, ARM architecture support, improved Nvidia Dynamic Boost, and new default wallpapers. It is expected in April as a 5-year LTS release.
