Ubuntu 26.04 LTS now supports installing AMD's ROCm GPU compute stack via a simple `sudo apt install rocm` command, fulfilling a Canonical-AMD collaboration promise. However, the packages ship with ROCm 7.1, which was released last October — already four versions behind the current ROCm 7.2.2. This raises concerns about whether the Ubuntu archive will keep ROCm packages up to date. For now, AMD Radeon and Instinct users are advised to use AMD's official Linux install instructions to get the latest ROCm improvements.
