Ubuntu 25.10 'Questing Quokka' is now available with GNOME 49, Linux kernel 6.17, and Mesa 25.2.x graphics drivers. Key updates include TPM-backed disk encryption with improved recovery key management, Rust-based implementations of sudo and core utilities for better memory safety, and new default apps (Ptyxis terminal and Loupe image viewer). The release drops X11 session support in GNOME 49 but maintains Xwayland compatibility. Additional improvements include A/B booting for Raspberry Pi, Secure Boot support for ARM64 Snapdragon laptops, Dracut for initramfs, and Chrony with NTS for secure time synchronization. Support continues until July 2026 with upgrade path to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.

Gave it a try. Rant time.

<li>No option to install into a pre-existing LVM2 setup. Even after manually bringing up everything, no new options appeared in selection menu. Side note - on an <code>ufs</code> partition there definitely isn’t some “unknown Linux”.</li>
<li>Of course it stole bootorder.</li>
<li>Enabling HDR almost burned out my retinas. I didn’t know my monitor can go that bright. And of course no brightness adjustment option.</li>
<li>Bluelight filter flicked everything into Trump-vision. I had to slide to the lowest setting to be acceptable. Plus - only a fixed time schedule, no option to be adaptive for sunrise/sunset.</li>

So far for 10 minutes spent with it - neh, I’ll pass. Give back 80GB of disk.
