Ubuntu 25.10 'Questing Quokka' releases October 9, 2025, featuring GNOME 49 desktop with refreshed file manager and lock screen controls, new default apps (Ptyxis terminal and Loupe image viewer), and TPM-backed full disk encryption. Major foundational changes include adopting Dracut for initramfs, replacing sudo with Rust-based sudo-rs, switching core utilities to rust-coreutils, and implementing Chrony with Network Time Security by default. The release ships with Linux kernel 6.17, Mesa 25.2, drops X11/Xorg session support for GNOME, and introduces A/B booting for Raspberry Pi.
