Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS will receive a hardware enablement update in January 2026, bringing Linux kernel 6.17 and Mesa 25.2.7 from Ubuntu 25.10. The kernel update includes power management improvements for Intel Core Ultra CPUs, SmartMux support for AMD hybrid GPU laptops, initial AMD RDNA 4 support, Framework Laptop sensor support, and Wi-Fi 7 stability improvements. Mesa 25.2.7 introduces production-ready NVK as the open-source NVIDIA Vulkan driver, replaces Clover with Rusticl for OpenCL tasks, and provides full Vulkan 1.4 compliance on Intel and AMD drivers. The update also includes Wayland Protocols 1.45 with new staging protocols for transparency effects and pointer warp API. The HWE stack will arrive as a standard software update before the February 12 ISO release.
