Ubisoft has reportedly canceled Alterra, an Animal Crossing-inspired voxel-based social sim that featured building mechanics similar to Minecraft and interactable NPCs called Matterlings. Employees learned of the cancellation on Tuesday, with no layoffs reported — staff were reassigned to other projects. Ubisoft cited its portfolio management approach and alignment with strategic priorities as the reason for discontinuing the project.
