Uber has launched Uber Autonomous Solutions, a new division designed to handle all operational aspects of running a robotaxi, self-driving truck, or sidewalk delivery robot business. The division will offer AV technology partners services including demand generation, fleet management, remote assistance, insurance, regulatory support, training data collection, and customer support — letting AV tech teams focus purely on software development. Uber has already amassed nearly two dozen AV partnerships and investments (Waymo, Waabi, WeRide, Nuro, Lucid, Volkswagen, and others) and aims to scale robotaxi deployments to 15+ cities by end of 2026. The move is both defensive — compensating for Uber's 2020 exit from in-house AV development after a fatal accident — and offensive, positioning Uber as the indispensable commercialization layer for the autonomous vehicle industry.
