Uber is turning into a payments company

Uber and Block (Square/Cash App) have expanded their partnership, bringing Cash App Pay to Uber and Uber Eats in the US and extending Square's Uber Eats integration to international markets. The deeper story is Uber's strategic shift toward owning the full transaction stack — ride, order, checkout, payout, and promotions — effectively becoming financial infrastructure. For restaurants, Square can now pull Uber Eats orders directly into point-of-sale systems, eliminating tablet clutter and syncing menus and inventory.
