Twilio has launched Agent-2-Human (A2H), an open-source protocol designed to standardize how AI agents hand off tasks to humans. The protocol abstracts away the complexity of multi-channel communication (SMS, WhatsApp, voice, push notifications) through an A2H Gateway, letting agents focus on what they need from humans rather than how to reach them. A2H defines five core intents: inform, collect, authorize, escalate, and result. Every interaction produces a signed artifact for auditability and compliance. The protocol integrates with MCP via standard tool-calling patterns and future integrations with LangGraph and CrewAI are planned.
