The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned two zero-day exploit brokers — Russian firm Operation Zero and UAE-based Advanced Security Solutions — along with their founders and associates, citing threats to national security. Operation Zero, founded by Sergey Zelenyuk, allegedly acquired at least eight proprietary cyber tools stolen from U.S. defense contractor L3Harris by former employee Peter Williams, who pleaded guilty in October. The sanctions confirm for the first time that Operation Zero was the unnamed Russian broker in the Williams case. Additional individuals sanctioned include a suspected Trickbot ransomware gang member and the alleged founder of Advanced Security Solutions.
