Tracing Agent Sessions with OpenTelemetry & Aspire

A walkthrough of using OpenTelemetry and the .NET Aspire dashboard to observe and trace AI agent sessions in VS Code. By enabling two Copilot Chat settings (OTEL emission and content capture), developers can see real-time traces, logs, and metrics of what GitHub Copilot agent is doing — including model switches, tool calls, system prompts, and user context. The Aspire CLI can also retrieve the same telemetry data in terminal format, enabling agents to inspect their own traces. A secondary demo shows a multi-language app (Python, C#, Go) fully instrumented with Aspire, running two dashboards simultaneously to observe both the app and the agent session.
