Toyota Connected North America announced Fluorite, an open-source game engine built with Flutter and Dart, designed for in-vehicle digital cockpit experiences. The engine uses Google's Filament for 3D rendering and runs on Yocto Linux with Wayland, already deployed in vehicles like the 2026 Toyota RAV4. Toyota rejected Unity, Unreal Engine, and Godot due to licensing, resource constraints, or performance issues. The project was presented at FOSDEM 2026, though source code and detailed documentation are not yet publicly available.
