A DIY digital clock project that uses capacitive touch sensing to detect when it is held, lighting up the display only when picked up. Built with a pair of stacked PCBs designed in Eagle and fabricated by BatchPCB, it uses the Arduino CapSense library for touch detection via an RC time constant on a copper plane. Battery life is maximized using a quartz crystal and microcontroller sleep modes, waking once per second to check for nearby hands. Code, board files, and BOM are available for download.
