I don’t think the Author made the initial point… the article says lots of people don’t like Microsoft / GitHub for unsaid reasons… (Read in 'big corporate bad guy) and then suggests, GitLab, Bitbucket, Google, AWS etc. all equally ‘big corporate bad guy’ companies. Don’t like the GitHub interface / feature set then sure make a change. But the alternatives suggested are in some cases worse (Amazon could be viewed as actively toxic as a company). So, the alternative list is welcome, but I don’t think the article makes the case as to why you would bother switching in the first place.

Offering some nice alternatives I haven’t heard of before. Author does mention other larger companies with similar behaviors like Microsoft. I personally use self hosted docker alternatives leveraging proper backups.
We all know AI is the big hype (I personally think it needs to be regulated) and all the big companies are using freely accessible data (among others, your data, open source data, etc) which helps them in feeding that data into their proprietary solutions, which they then sell to us.
I think Microsoft was more interested in the user data AND private repos, when they bought GitHub, they could have easily crawled the open source projects without buying GitHub.

The mention to radicle was a surprise. I use it to manage academic projects, its a true web3 tool
