Tomás Palacios, the Clarence J. LeBel Professor of Electrical Engineering at MIT, has been appointed director of the MIT Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies (ISN). He will continue serving as director of MIT's Microsystems Technology Laboratories. ISN is a U.S. Army-sponsored research center focused on nanotechnology for soldier protection, sensing, and survivability. Palacios is known for his work on wide-bandgap semiconductors, nanoelectronics, and advanced electronic materials, and has co-founded several technology companies. He succeeds John Joannopoulos, who led ISN from 2006 until his death in August 2025.
