Automate as much as possible, so you can focus on the important parts - a good ci goes a long way to reduce the code review burden

I have a script which runs the diffs through GPT-4, and produces pretty good conventional commit style messages, which I can then edit if needed. Good for when I’m feeling lazy or tongue-tied, or can’t remember what the heck I was doing!

If you really are new to maintaining, you should definitely consider useful tools and measures like setting up pre-commit hooks.
You could use husky for all of that.
