MZLA Technologies, Mozilla's for-profit subsidiary, has announced Thunderbolt — an open-source AI client targeting enterprises that want to run self-hosted AI on their own infrastructure. Organizations can choose any AI model (cloud or local), connect it to internal data via the Haystack framework and protocols like MCP and ACP, and automate workflows. Clients are available for web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. The code is on GitHub and free to self-host, but MZLA plans to monetize through managed hosting and enterprise support services. The project is still in development and undergoing a security audit before production readiness.
