A hobbyist has built a split-flap chessboard where each tile physically flips to display chess pieces, mimicking the look and sound of airport departure boards. The project uses an ESP32 as the main controller running the chess engine, with Raspberry Pi Picos managing each rank of the board. Five of eight ranks are complete, with black pieces still missing.
