<p>On a related note, I think <a href="https://crates.io/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">crates.io</a> should add a “Downloads over years since last update” sort. Perhaps using a more concise name. If a crate has 1e8 downloads, but was last updated 5 years ago, there may be a more recent crate that would be more visible if the older crate was sorted at 2e7. Not to mention the crates updated years ago with downloads in the #e5 range. Admittedly, some of those are niche cases that don’t need updating, but that’s one of the reasons multiple types of search are useful. Also the time should probably have a lower bound of 1 year, with one year counted as 1.0, to prevent a constant churn of new crates. Else, a crate “Last updated 30 minutes ago, one download” would have a score of 5.256e5.</p>
