Finnish startup Donut Lab claims to have developed an all-solid-state battery ready for mass production, boasting 400 Wh/kg energy density, 5-minute charging, 100,000 cycle life, extreme temperature resilience, and lower cost than lithium-ion — a combination experts say is physically contradictory. Battery researchers and industry executives expressed deep skepticism, noting the company had no demo at CES and came out of nowhere. In response, Donut Lab launched a video series called 'I Donut Believe' to provide third-party evidence. The first test showed a single cell charging from 0–80% in ~4.5 minutes, though with notable heat buildup. Many performance claims remain unverified, and the broader industry context shows even established players like Toyota and CATL are still years away from solid-state production.

This company claims a battery breakthrough. Now they need to prove it.
