Redwood Materials launched a new business line that repurposes used EV batteries to create renewable-powered microgrids for AI data centers. Their first 64 MWh system in Nevada powers a 2,000 GPU facility using solar energy and recycled batteries. This approach offers a faster, cheaper alternative to grid-connected power plants while reducing carbon emissions. The company estimates it has enough reusable batteries to build 1 GWh of storage capacity and is designing systems 10 times larger than their current deployment.
