Technical interviews are evolving but not dying as AI reshapes software development. LeetCode-style algorithmic questions persist at major companies, with 0 out of 52 FAANG interviewers having dropped them entirely, though over half have adjusted question types. Startups are moving faster — 67% say AI has meaningfully changed their process versus 0% at FAANG firms. Meta has added an AI-assisted coding stage, widening problem scope and exposing candidates to full codebases. Assessment criteria are shifting toward reviewing and debugging AI-generated code, system design, technical judgment, and handling ambiguity. Interview coaching firms are adapting by adding AI-assisted coding training, and demand for coaching may actually increase as AI levels the coding playing field and technical assessments expand beyond engineering roles.
