Tried this for myself, took a selfie; the result is pretty mediocre. I turned off the location information and skewed the date back to the lowest I could. The description of the image generated by Google is nothing notable, as it is just looking at me and my surroundings, all visible to the camera. It got fooled by the date I put in, and there was no location box in the site unlike with the demo image. (because there was no loc info in the image itself) Given that this information is gained through Google’s Vision API, the use cases for that data seems reasonable at least on first thought. While yes, Google does know a lot about you and yeah, that’s really creepy; this demo doesn’t really demonstrate that. This, to me, appears to be an ad due to the link to Ente’s website. Not trying to shit on them, by the way; I just think that this ad doesn’t paint the full picture, or any at all. There’s nothing that no normal photo app can’t access, besides the AI description that I could very well just ask ChatGPT for.
All in all, yeah, they aren’t wrong about Google collecting a shit ton of personal and private data, we all know that; but this demo doesn’t really show that at all.

Storing everything locally since some time and I feel perfectly fine. Just a 100ish $ zimablade with 2tb + 2tb (backup) SSDs and Nextcloud.

The details are really wild but how are they doing it from just one photo I mean it also showed the targeted ads; it is really something to take care about.
