The world's largest carbon removal plant, Mammoth, has powered up in Iceland. Swiss climate tech company Climeworks operates the plant, which aims to filter carbon dioxide out of the air through direct air capture (DAC). Mammoth is the largest DAC plant running yet and plans to capture nearly 10 times as much CO2 as the previously biggest DAC plant. Climeworks and other climate tech companies have ambitious plans in the US, with the Biden administration allocating $3.5 billion to develop DAC hubs.
