YKK, the world's largest zipper manufacturer, has developed a prototype for a self-propelled zipper equipped with a motor and gear mechanism, allowing it to zip up at the push of a button. Initially tent-sized, the company envisions industrial applications, such as connecting large structures, and aims to miniaturize the technology for potential consumer use. The current prototype uses a worm gear and requires a wired power source, with plans to add a battery and safety features for future iterations.
