Three growing threats are identified: sophisticated bot traffic pushing sites toward invasive fingerprinting or mandatory logins, government-mandated age verification requiring detailed identity disclosure, and new digital government identity standards making hard identification more practical. Mozilla proposes cryptographic approaches, including zero-knowledge proofs, to address abuse prevention, age assurance, and civic authentication without sacrificing user privacy.
