The Unix Epochalypse might be sooner than you think

Museum researchers discovered that the Year 2038 problem may manifest earlier than expected, with some legacy C compilers from 1982 already crashing in 2037 when calling time functions. The Unix Epochalypse occurs when 32-bit signed integers storing Unix time overflow on January 19, 2038, but testing on a PDP-11/73 revealed unexpected behaviors including crashes a year early and incorrect date calculations. Unlike Y2K which was primarily an application issue, the 2038 problem affects fundamental system time handling and may have broader, less predictable impacts on legacy systems still in use.
