A developer successfully reverse-engineered a 1997 Epson FilmScan 200 scanner to work with a vintage Mac SE/30. The scanner used SCSI connectivity and required custom software since official drivers only supported Windows 95/98 and Mac System 7/8. By analyzing service manuals and old SANE drivers, they discovered the device used Epson's ESC/I protocol over SCSI and implemented new software using the Mac SCSI Manager API. The project involved solving challenges like switching between negatives in the film carrier and assembling color images from three monochrome channels.
