The Real Skill in Software Isn't Coding — It's Code Review

Code production has always been a byproduct of solving real problems — what truly matters is problem definition, compatibility, and standards. As AI tools reduce the need to write code directly, the craft of software engineering is shifting toward review. Just as package managers already abstracted away much of code production, the next frontier is developing more structured, disciplined approaches to code review. This is where real engineering judgment lives, and it may be more aligned with what engineering certification actually means: adherence to standards, which ultimately come from review.
