A new NTFS driver has been merged into the Linux 7.1 kernel, the result of four years of work by developer Namjae Jeon. This overhauled driver replaces the older read-only NTFS driver and addresses shortcomings of the Paragon NTFS3 driver, adding write support, a cleaner codebase, and more modern features. The merge had a brief hiccup when Linus Torvalds initially un-pulled the code due to Git pull request formatting issues, but a revised pull request was accepted. The NTFS3 driver remains in-tree for now, and the new driver can be enabled via the NTFS_FS Kconfig switch.
