Starting April 1, the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) begins showing over-quota warnings on firmware pages that exceed 50k monthly downloads, targeting vendors who have not contributed financially or through engineering work. LVFS requires organizations with fewer than 99 employees to contribute $10k USD annually, while larger organizations must contribute $100k USD annually or employ engineers full-time on LVFS/Fwupd. Additionally, per-firmware analytics will be disabled for vendors below the startup sponsor level. Current startup sponsors include Framework Computer and the Open-Source Firmware Foundation, with engineering support from the Linux Foundation and Red Hat.
