There is a belief that bringing 1 billion developers into the software economy could have a significant economic impact. The developer population has been growing rapidly, and it is becoming easier to become a developer with the help of AI. Market forces and AI have been accelerating the growth of the developer population. This growth enables the software economy to expand its scope and drive automation in both the digital and physical economies.

I’m sorry but this is stupid. What all these people forget is that many people don’t want to become developers and work and perform as software developers.
It has become a lot more easier for me to become a lawyer or work in finance and earn a lot more than a developer. But do I want to? Hell no! I could also do my own accounting, fix my home, train my dog. I could do so many things these days. Do I want to? Nope, still no.
As initially a self taught professional, I have guided multiple people towards becoming developers – in addition to working with boot camps. A couple became professionals - but the majority just didn’t follow through.
In a world of choice, the truth is, 1B people won’t want to become developers anymore than they want to become their own accountants, fitness trainers, nutrition specialists, home cooks, painters, plumbers, etc, etc.

And do 21M more accounts on GitHub mean 21M more software enginneers on the makert? I’m sure the most of this was just a hello world and nothing more.

well it seems a very biased article. yes we will have many people but this will really dilute the market. The big players have to start planning accommodating these new work force in a very economical way.
