The Rust-for-Linux project is preparing patches to raise the minimum supported Rust version for building the Linux kernel from 1.78 to 1.85, aligning with the Debian 13 'Trixie' baseline. The bindgen minimum version will also be bumped from 0.65.1 to 0.71.1. Rust 1.85, which stabilized the Rust 2024 edition, is already the default in Debian 13. Patches are now posted to the kernel mailing list for review, with a potential landing in the Linux 7.1 merge window.
