First, since reviewing is essentially applying rules and validation to an input to ensure a reliable output, it feels like AI will eventually outperform humans in this area.
Second, I suspect that as software creation becomes nearly instantaneous, the concept of accountability will change. If there are endless alternatives, no one will bother blaming a broken tool; they will simply switch to another. Accountability might become a title in name only, as it becomes too easy to jump from one solution to the next.
To be honest, it feels a bit strange. I often feel like there must be a ‘right way’ to handle all of this—something I’m reluctant to accept, but that will likely emerge eventually. For now, I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see.

Interesting read. There has to remain room in the industry for developers who don’t want to be “reverse centaurs”, as Doctorow <a href="https://pluralistic.net/2025/12/05/pop-that-bubble/#u-washington" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">describes it</a>. If the human reviewer’s main job in the future is to be the accountability sink for AI’s mistakes, then our industry is shooting itself in the head.
