Google has launched a native Gemini app for macOS, available free to all Gemini users on macOS 15 and above. The app sits in the background and can be summoned with Option + Space from anywhere on the desktop. Key features include screen sharing for instant context (ask questions about what's on screen, including local files), quick access without switching windows, image generation via Imagen, and video generation via Veo. Google describes this as the foundation for a more personal and proactive desktop assistant, with more features planned.
